Lina Khan is an American legal scholar and antitrust expert known for her work challenging the market power of large corporations and technology companies. She served as chair of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) from 2021 to 2025, becoming one of the most prominent advocates for stronger antitrust enforcement and competition in the American economy.
She is also an associate professor at Columbia Law School, where her research focuses on antitrust law, monopolies, and the relationship between law and economic power. Khan was appointed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani in July 2026 as chair of the board of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, where she will help oversee the city’s economic development initiatives and advance an agenda focused on affordability and economic fairness.
