Sylvia Ng is Head of Strategy and Planning of HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited (“HSBC China”).
Ms Ng first joined HSBC in 2002, and has been HSBC China’s Head of Strategy since October 2008, responsible for developing HSBC’s organic expansion plans in China and executing various strategic projects, including the establishment of JVs and capital markets transactions. Since 2012, Ms Ng is also responsible for overseeing the bank’s RMB internationalization business in China – a key strategic priority for both HSBC China and the Group, as well as the onshore management of HSBC’s strategic partnerships in mainland China, namely the investments that HSBC has in Bank of Communications, Ping An Insurance and Bank of Shanghai.
Over the course of her career, Ms Ng has been involved in several landmark transactions, including HSBC China’s 2009 RMB 3 billion offshore bond issuance, the first such issuance by a foreign bank in mainland China; as well as benchmark capital market issuances by the Hong Kong SAR Government and China Development Bank. Her previous work experience includes Barclays Capital, Credit Suisse First Boston, Williams de Broe and eBay in Hong Kong and London.
A Hong Kong native, Ms Ng was educated in the United Kingdom and graduated with first class honours in Investment and Financial Risk Management from Cass Business School, City University, London. She also holds an MBA from the Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA Program (Class 2011/2012).
