State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office, Harald Braun is a senior German diplomat with extensive experience in both international diplomacy and business. An economist and historian, he has served over three decades in diplomatic posts on four continents and with the United Nations, including Chief Political Officer in Washington D.C., special envoy for Afghanistan reconstruction, Deputy National Security Adviser to the German Chancellor and Minister Plenipotentiary in Paris, France. He is currently Undersecretary for Management at the German Foreign Office. Ambassador Braun’s career in private business includes several years as Corporate Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs at Siemens AG, Munich.
