Deepak Lal is the James S. Coleman Professor Emeritus of International Development Studies at the university of California, Los Angeles, and Professor Emeritus of Political Economy at University College London, and former Research Administrator at the World Bank. He has been a member of the Indian Foreign Service and advised various international agencies and governments, and is the author of numerous books on economic development and public policy, including Reviving the Invisible Hand(2006), The Hindu Equilibrium (2005),In Praise of Empires (2004),Unintended Consequences(1998)-the Ohlin lectures, and (with H. Myint) The Political Economy of Poverty, Equity and Growth. He is the past President of the Mont Pelerin Society and was awarded the International freedom Award fro Economy by the Italian Societa Liberia in 2007.
