Marcello de Cecco (1939-2016) was emeritus professor at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and taught courses at the School of European Politics of LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome, where he was also a member of the Scientific Committee. He received his Law degree from the University of Parma and his MA in Economics from Cambridge University, in the UK. He was a professor of Economics at the European University Institute in Fiesole and in the Universities of Roma and Siena and a visiting professor at Harvard, Oxford, Berkeley, the Ecole Normale d’ Administration and a fellow of the Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton and of the Wissenschaft Kolleg zu Berlin. He was in the Council of economic advisers to Italian Prime Ministers Prodi and D’ Alema. He was on the board of directors of several Italian banks. He has published several books and articles on international monetary history He writes frequent comments on international economic affairs for the Italian daily “La Repubblica”.
